Is the Sun a planet?

Our solar system is made up of planets, so is the Sun also a planet?

What is the Sun classified as exactly because as far as I know the word "Sun" is just the name that we call it.

The Sun

The Sun is not really a planet but a star.

It is a super massive ball of plasma that is held together by gravity and it is our primary energy source. Most of it consists of hydrogen, the rest is mostly helium and the tiny remainder is made up of other heavier elements.
